Over the last year we've been extensively building boards with different colors, tints, stringers, fin setups, resin finishes, inlays... you name it... we've tried it. Our close relationships with our shaper, Bill Minard, and the Gordon family (G&S) at Custom Surf Glass, have provided an incredible opportunity to pair San Diego's most versatile board designs with clean, crisp, classy glasswork that we can stand behind.
When you have that kind of heritage built into your board, it has it's own living, breathing soul with decades of blood and sweat forged into the design, technique and function of every surfboard. It's not just disposable foam, resin like it became with the shortboard revolution. Surfing is not just a sport, it's a way of life. Our surfboards are an expression of who Degree 33 is. It's more than just a board. With that, we've created the first series of that expression.
We bring you "The Darkwood" Series. A collection of three curated creations with our best selling model, the Ultimate Longboard.
A quick recap on the Ultimate...
The Ultimate is our entry level longboard, only in the sense that it's incredibly easy to pick up surfing with this as your first real (hard) surfboard. It's a 2+1 fin setup, which means you'll ride it with a large center fin and smaller side fins for stabilization. As you improve, you can slowly shift your center fin away from the tail to gain more maneuverability. The Ultimate boasts a perfect dose of foam (volume) with forgiving rails and just enough rocker to keep you from going over the handlebars. Finally, the most intriguing feature of the Ultimate, is the chined rails. The beveled rail creates a narrowing planing surface, making the Ultimate an incredibly responsive board for its length. Extremely versatile, our performance longboard can handle everything from knee high to 3ft overhead. Whether you're just getting started, or you've been at it for decades, you'll come out of the water with an ear to ear grin every time.
