Advanced Surfers! Pivot Fish Vs. Flyin Fish

December 22nd, 2010 by Rob

When someone says they are looking for a fish typically they are wanting a small wave devouring alternative to their shortboard and our fish will satisfy that appetite. Here’s the quick and dirty on the Flyin Fish and Pivot Fish.

The Pivot Fish

Fish Surfboard - Pivot Fish

Did You Know? The Pivot Fish once got a standing ovation for coughing twice into a microphone.

The Pivot Fish. His average Sunday consists of saving orphaned puppies from burning buildings. If you wanted to, you could frame his scratch paper—and everyone would be very impressed by your good taste. He once entered a cooking competition using nothing more than a spatula, two napkins, and a packet of ketchup—in hindsight that was a tragic mistake. He is, in short, the most interesting retro fish in the world. A classic retro fish that’s been keeping up on the times.

Equipped with an old school deep notch fish tail, adaptable NexGen construction, and beefy dimensions, if your concerns are float and stability without losing the classic skatey feel, this board will not disappoint. The Pivot Fish is reliable and surprisingly maneuverable for being such a staunch board—you’ll not only be able to pull off the signature skateboard-like drifting turns thanks to the quad fin setup, but also sharper pivoting turns, via the pronounced swallow-tail.

The Pivot Fish is also equipped with rolled V nose concave, supplemented with a single concave running to the tail. The end result is a fish that moves faster, turns cleaner, and rides better than any of its competition.

Take it out on small mushy days and dominate the lineup or ride it out on double overhead and watch em go all slack jawed and starry eyed.

“WOW! you guys are awesome! I was lookin’ to buy my boyfriend a surfboard for our 2 yr. anniversary. Out here in LA, USED fish boards go for about $460. I was just browsing online hoping to maybe find a place that would sell it cheaper, and I just stumbled on your website. NOT ONLY did I find what I was lookin’ for, but it was a NEW board at a cheaper price! On the same day we came to pick up the board we decided to hit the beach to see how it rides. HE LOVED IT! He was catching waves all over here and there. ALSO 2 other surfers came up to him and complimented his board. HE WAS SO STOKED! THANK YOU!”

The Flyin’ Fish

Fish Surfboard - Flyin' Fish

Looks like a fish. Surfs like a bottle rocket. Minus all the death and explosions and stuff.

Maybe you’re tired of your shortboards, or maybe you’re just looking for something a little off the beaten path. Maybe you’re on the market for an all purpose board but don’t wanna deal with all the hassle and bulk of a funboard. Sound familiar?

Then you just hit the jackpot, chuck.

The Flyin Fish is really a unique hybrid style fusing the advanced maneuverability of a shortboard with the beefy float, and easy paddle of a fish. This is one of those boards you can just toss into your truck, drive to the beach with or without checking the conditions, and still have a blast on.

Single to V concaves, pulling water away from the rails and towards your fins so you can maximize your paddle speed and control without any sacrifice. Equipped with quad fins to give you more hold on waves and greater drive—if you don’t love the Flyin’ Fish, we’ll eat our words and buy it back.

“I love my Flyin’ Fish! Can’t say it any other way. Lake Erie isn’t known for its breaks, but when a storm kicks up and sends weather to my shore, waves can get up over 12ft. We got hit with waves and winds from a storm up in Canada the day before I got my Fish and it lasted for three days. So I got to try it out in the best (worst?) waves we got all month – 9-12ft waves slamming into and out of every direction. It was SWEET! I had a blast! As soon as I hit the water, it was like there was no storm at all. I flew on the rip and the chops and even when the backwash slammed me, it was instant recovery – this board can fly in the mushy waves around here. The board fits me. I still love the 8′ board I bought from you, too, but it works better for different waves. I just got an on-board camera and I’ll send a video as soon as we get some more weather worth showing. Thanks for the GREAT Customer service and a couple of OUTSTANDING boards!”

Here are our recommendations for size/weight and board size. If you’re in it for the challenge and the thrill of pushing your board to its absolute physical limits, go with the shorter size in the suggested range. Mellower surfers, you know the drill. Bigger board, bigger sweet spots, easier paddle. Check out the longer size in the suggested range.
